Acoustic Mechanics of Linear Wood and Grille Reveal Systems
While solid timber surfaces naturally reflect sound, architectural wood ceilings achieve exceptional acoustic control through precise spacing and reveals. In a grille or linear plank layout, sound waves travel through the open spaces between the wood members. Once the sound passes through, it is captured and absorbed by an acoustic backing substrate, such as a high-density black PET felt or an acoustical fiberglass blanket.
